I really love trees. Though I’m completely ignorant in the way of arboriculture. In fact I had to look that word up to make sure I wasn’t inventing my own vocabulary. A walk with my father always unintentionally becomes a study in trees. No matter what the topic of conversation as we stroll he’s obviously constantly examining the trees internally, randomly reaching for leaves, kicking nuts and picking up cones. Occasionally he’ll say to himself in a eureka moment “oh you know what this is?” and proceed to answer with some precisely defined genus. I simply think, how do you know that?! I then scan my own body of education and wonder where I missed out on the apparent common skill of identifying trees.
This tree is in historic Schiller Park, German Village, Columbus Ohio.
